India is a country where the two-wheeler industry is flourishing well. All the big bike makers of the world have their products here – especially in the premium segment of the two-wheelers. A premium bike should be decently fuel efficient, have a bit of extra power and should be stylish enough to stand out in the crowd.
In India there are many premium bikes available, Indian or foreign made. We will consider the prices, specifications and features of few of them. The Bajaj Pulsar 220 F priced around Rupees 82,023 is an affordable luxury bike which can be used for commuting and touring. The Bajaj Avenger DTS-i is a cheaper bike priced around Rupees 79,838 with an air cooled engine with a water cooler producing 19 bhp. It has a fuel efficiency of 50 kmpl and a top speed of 118 kmpl. It has only drum brakes at the rear.
The Royal Enfield Classic has a 350 cc variant priced Rupees 1,24,501 and three500 cc variants priced from rupees 1,56,304 to 1,69,116. The engines have 13 bhp for 350 cc variant and 27 bhp for 500 cc variants. The mileages range from 30 to 37 kmpl and the top speeds are 131 kmph. The Royal Enfield Thunderbird is a 350 mm bike priced around Rupees 1,28,446. Its 346 cc, 20 bhp air cooled engine gives a mileage of 53 kmpl and a top speed of 107 kmph.
The Honda CBR 250R in 5 variants priced from Rupees 1,56,668 to 1,92,056 with ABS incorporated in two of the variants. This good touring bike has a 250 cc, 25 bhp water-cooled engine giving mileages of 34 kmpl and top speeds of 147 kmph.
Hero Karizma has five variants priced between Rupees 80,300 and 1,01,100. Its 17 bhp oil cooled engine gives mileages of 42 kmpl and top speeds of 126 kmph. This 159 kg bike has a ground clearance of 159 mm and disc type brakes on both the wheels.
The Yamaha YZF R15 priced around 1,17,450 has a 149 cc, 17 bhp water cooled engine with a fuel efficiency of 46 kmpl. The KTM Duke 200 is proper naked bike priced around Rupees 1.36 lakh. Powered by a 200 cc, 25 bhp, water cooled engine it has a fuel efficiency of 35 kmpl. The luxury bikes from foreign makers have better features, but they are priced high as well.
